This explains what data JustWatt collects, why, and what you can do about it. It’s written to be read, not to hide behind length.

Who we are

JustWatt is an independent UK website. For the purposes of UK data protection law, JustWatt is the data controller. For anything about your data, email hello@justwatt.co.uk.

What we collect, and why

We keep data collection deliberately minimal.

  • Analytics. We use Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics tool. It’s cookieless, doesn’t track you across other sites, and doesn’t store data that identifies you personally. It tells us aggregate things, like which pages get read and roughly where visitors come from, so we can see what’s useful. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
  • Links you click out to. When you click an affiliate or external link, we count the click through Plausible’s outbound-link tracking. This is also cookieless and not tied to you personally. It tells us which recommendations people act on. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
  • Emails you send us. If you email hello@, editors@ or brand@, we receive your address and whatever you write. We use it only to read, reply and act on corrections. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in handling correspondence.
  • Server logs. Our host keeps standard technical logs, including IP addresses, to run and secure the site. This is normal hosting infrastructure, not something we use to profile you.

We don’t currently show third-party ads. If that changes, we’ll update this policy and put cookie controls in place before any advertising cookies are set.

Cookies

The site doesn’t set tracking or advertising cookies. Plausible is cookieless. Any cookies present are the strictly necessary kind needed for the site to work, so there’s no consent banner to click through.

Who processes data for us

We don’t sell your data and we don’t share it for marketing. The tools that necessarily handle some data on our behalf are Plausible (analytics), Vercel (hosting) and Google Workspace (email). Each acts as a processor under its own terms. Affiliate merchants you click through to have their own privacy policies, which govern what happens once you’re on their site.

How long we keep it

Analytics data is aggregate and held by Plausible under their retention terms. Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with your query, and a reasonable period after, then deleted. Server logs are short-lived and managed by our host.

International transfers

Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they’re required to protect it to UK-equivalent standards.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@justwatt.co.uk and we’ll deal with it.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change this policy we’ll update the date below, and flag anything material.
